"International counterparts need to work together for the innovative development for human's health." Prof. Huang Jiefu, Chairman of the China Organ and Transplantation Committee, said when delivering his opening speech at the "Conference on High-level Hospital Development (ICHD 2022)".?

Huang noted, "The world is going through an unprecedented change unseen in a century. While normal order of the pre-epidemic era has been off track, medical systems are facing huge challenges."

The ICHD 2022, co-organized by The First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University (FAH-SYSU) & Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH), a world-class academic medical center that is a founding member of Mass General Brigham, and a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School (HMS), was held from June 17 to 19 both online and offline.?

The conference covers the hot and challenging topics of global hospital high-quality development, with a wide range of themes such as hospital strategic development, academic development, medical education innovation, talent cultivation, translational medicine, and precision medicine.?

Sessions of the conference include a Keynote Lecture, a Main Session on "High Level Hospital Management", FAH-BWH Sessions on "Academic Development", China-Europe Sessions, and China-Singapore Session.

Speakers and participants of this conference are leaders and specialists from 10 world-renowned medical institutions such as HMS, BWH, the University of Birmingham (UoB), the University of Manchester (UoM), Ludwig Maximilians University (LMU), Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and from China's14 pilot public hospitals for high quality development. Over 80 thousand people watch the live forum online.

All of them joined the conference and discussed the strategic development of hospitals to safeguard health for mankind.

What makes high-level hospital development??

Prof. Xiao Haipeng, Executive Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University and President of the FAH-SYSU proposed "Six Essentials" to bring medical services featuring accessibility, equity and justice to people.

Dr. Paul Anderson, Senior Vice President, Research and Education and Chief Academic Officer, BWH, and Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, delivered a keynote lecture on "Fostering Innovation and Commercialization at the Mass General Brigham Academic Medical System". The innovation and research translation model described in the presentation are worthy of reference.

During the main session, Dr. David Martin, Vice Chair for Network Development and Innovative Care Solutions, Brigham and Women's Hospital and Senior Lecturer in Medicine, Harvard Medical School, shared "Rethinking Medicine: Toward the Thoughtful Application of Disruptive Innovation at the Hospital-Community Interface", which serves a good inspiration for building an integrated health care system in China.

Prof. Joseph Sung, Senior Vice President (Health & Life Sciences) and Dean, Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, NTU, shared his experience in the management of academic medical centers in Singapore.

Four presidents of leading hospitals in China shared their views on the exploration and practice of high-quality hospital development, the tradition and innovation of academic advancement, and technological innovation in Chinese public hospitals.?

International collaboration highlighted between China and US hospitals

FAH-SYSU has been working with Brigham and Women's Hospitalin cooperation of academic development in a long-term manner.?

Peer-to-peer collaboration and exchange have taken place across multiple collaborative disciplines, and clinical experts from BWH who are also Harvard Medical School faculty have been involved.?

Disciplines are combining their respective strengths for win-win cooperation, so as to promote the advancement of healthcare delivery, education and research at FAH-SYSU and improve the health and wellness for people across China.

Greater Bay Area more advantageous in international medical collaboration?

China's State Council issued an overall plan to promote comprehensive cooperation among Guangdong, Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR by further deepening opening-up in Nansha district of South China's Guangdong province, according to a circular released on June 14.?

The plan mentioned, high-quality public resources on medical care will be pooled at a faster pace. Meanwhile, the Nansha branch of FAH-SYSU, located in the geometrical center of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), is well-prepared to be open this year.

Speaking of the medical development of GBA, Prof. Xiao Haipeng said that by combining the strengthens of Guangdong, Hong Kong SAR, and Macao SAR, the GBA can extend exchange and cooperation with the West.

Xiao elaborated, "Hong Kong is competitive in talent training and sci-tech innovation systems. Macao boasts sound general practice for residents. By integrating their strong points with the clinical resources, talents, industrial and institutional advantage of Guangdong, the GBA enjoys unique advantages in the medical fields."
